"FPCDoom is a source port of Doom developed by Jim Valavanis (Jval) written in Free Pascal "
does it really count as a source port if the source is in a completely different language?
the real problem with the doom source ports list is that there's a ManDoom but no WomanDoom
doom has been ported to world of warcraft, by compiling the original C code to target risc-v, and writing a risc-v emulator in lua:
https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Doom_Within
in 1999 there was a version of doom designed to add multiplayer: split screen multiplayer! on windows!
this was built after an earlier attempt, MultDoom, which was just a modification of Doom to run multiple copies at once and use shared memory instead of a network. The performance on that wasn't good (on a 200mhz PC), so WDMP was created instead, with one process managing all 2/3/4 windows
@foone It's just ManDoom but the pain level is amped up 300%
Have you heard about Doom's early multi-monitor support? It had an early multi-monitor mode that used 3 networked computers. I saw a video where a guy set up some old hardware and got it running.
@foone I can hear the cries of "STOP SCREENWATCHING" through the veils of time and reality
@foone It's cool to see that people are using RISC-V for that instead of MIPS these days.
@foone why going througj risc-v instead of converting the C directly to Lua?
@gunstick probably because that'd be a lot harder
@foone my world is complete
@foone finally… doom for men
@foone I assume ManDoom is wetware but only runs on men?
@cinebox presumably!
