Today! My first stream in a long time. This’ll be a chill stream where I explore the rare Ian and Stuart collection of Mac CDs with stuff from Australian Mac archives of the early 90s. 5:30 Pacific at twitch.tv/ms_tea

We’ll see old software, shareware games, Hypercard stacks with vintage info, and more. Some of this might be online elsewhere, some of it’s only here! I’ll have the mic on and we can chat as I go through things.

Just came across what might be one of the first CDs I’ve ever seen with the DCP flag? What a fun pointless little thing that is.

It’s a “copy protection” flag that just tells the reader not to copy the disc. Non-binding, no actual protection. So very few people used it.

Masto admins: are you also seeing an influx of spam registrations lately?

Apologies to any actual humans I accidentally deny. I'm trying to pay attention to every account, but I'm denying any requests from spammy-looking emails/usernames and no request text.

Geeze, the amount of spam registration requests lately is really getting to be a lot.

This is a long shot: do I know someone in Singapore who could assist me with something?

Looks like Lambda School lost their case re using deceptive language in their student contracts. They have to notify students and undergo an independent review of their contracts and marketing materials going forward. dfpi.ca.gov/2021/04/26/lambda-

Well, there’s one PS1 mystery solved. There’s a game by Culture Brain I’ve seen pop up on a lot of unreleased game lists, but some people insisted it really exists. A copy sold on Mercari for $150 recently, and they have photos. It exists! mercari.com/jp/items/m81969921

Pleased to report that @jomc and I are speaking at a free online event hosted by the Internet Archive and Library Futures on Apr 28. We will be discussing her book Lurking, and what happened when "in the 1990's and early aughts, people became users, and users put their trust in a corporation to do the job of a library."

Library friends: do you have opinions on the different library programs in Canada? A friend is looking at going into children’s librarianship and could use feedback from people who have experience at different schools.
