Hi all, what do you think of establishing a Code of Conduct for digipres.club? It will help us federate with friendly instances.
I am thinking of adopting what we have at our sister instance https://glammr.us/about/more
Feel free to edit draft at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pmEdtTIkFkCSMhnLTwjGaC9bOUI1JlcYpO2OkksjK8c/edit?usp=sharing
Thanks @misty for bringing this up.
Has anyone ever noticed that Apple's album artwork server will happily return you the full-resolution original file if you think to ask for it…? https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/Music128/v4/83/55/0d/83550d95-95e6-b04e-f1b4-9464424c763e/0205_jk_seiken_densetsu2_haishin_3000x3000px.jpg/3000x0w.jpg

I've been reading The Digital Dilemma (about Hollywood and moving image preservation), because I get asked about video a lot, and it has a surprisingly in-depth background section discussing digital preservation in a variety of fields beyond Hollywood.
I've been writing a Rust binding for libcue, a CD-ROM CUE sheet parser. Seems to be working!
Note that the final track’s length is “-1” because the CUE format leaves that implicit; that LBA has to be calculated from the actual CD-ROM disc image.
I don't even know what character that is in front of "bin".

@joshuatj @mickylindlar I've worked a little bit with DIAMANT Dustbuster+ the past couple years. I just tried for the heck of it and technically speaking it at least will import FFV1 (though only wrapped in MOV, no MKV). But it only renders/exports still image formats, so who knows exactly what's happening in that decode/encode....might be worth some tests!
I'm /really/ excited about https://pinafore.social/. It looks great and is basically what I had been hoping for all along! A lightweight thingy that does the mastodon things on the shitty netbook that I sometimes like to use
Learning or teaching #digipres? Here are free educational resources from my book #Re_collection with Rick Rinehart, including interactive infographics, video tutorials, and quizzes. http://re-collection.net/educational_resources.html
Now that my FILM muxer is in FFmpeg, I think my next step will be writing up a blog post on it! I didn’t find many resources on this kind of thing, so I hope writing about my experiences will help other people - and be interesting in general.
I’m still trying to figure out why FFmpeg’s Cinepak is being rejected by the Saturn, but it’s a bit less pressing now that I have access to a vintage Cinepak encoder. My muxer’s still very useful for replacing audio.
