@tvc15 @ashley sorry, wasn't looking at the space utilisation. Mitigating, mitigating now.

Hooray, digipres.club is back! So now I can ask a question of any QEMU tinkerers and/or legacy Linux users:

Any suggestions for getting '90s-era Mandrake (5.x) to recognize sound and network cards? As far as I can tell from modprobe, Mandrake had native drivers for QEMU's emulated SB16 and NE2000 PCI devices, and they're loaded into the kernel, but the OS still won't see them.

Am I going to finally experience the joys of recompiling the Linux kernel???

What's the best way to find and interact with other #librarians on Mastodon? The hashtags I've used and loved on Twitter don't seem to have users here...lovin' Mastodon, but still learn' the culture and best practices ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, I know and love the Trunk (though I should revisit it again, it's been awhile...)

Thanks in advance!!!

New tool klaxon red alert! First public pre-release of tapeimgr, a simple tape imaging and extraction tool (GUI + CLI). Details here: github.com/KBNLresearch/tapeim

@andrewjbtw Agree. I can imagine AWS Glacier Deep Archive might just be the service that'll tip the scale for individuals to be able to afford some form of long term keeping of their photos and videos. aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats

Definitely still believe this but don't know how we get there:

Digital preservation can't be something that only "digital preservation professionals" do, it needs to be something within reach of individuals who want to keep their own stuff during their lifetimes and then pass it on to friends and family. You're probably not going to run some ISO-certified preservation repository at home, but you should be able to keep your photos and home videos for yourself for as long as you want to keep them

@joe @andrewjbtw Same here. Maybe it should have been World Digital Preservation Week?

I could really use some help from someone who knows USB, HID, keyboards, the intricacies of PCs interacting with keyboards at POST and such.

I have a Raspberry Pi Zero emulating a USB keyboard. It works great. However if I connect it via my KVM, two of my older PCs will not complete POST. Unplugging the Pi from the KVM's keyboard port solves this. Connecting the Pi directly to the PC solves this. No real keyboard has this issue.

digipres.club is now running Mastodon 2.4.0! I'm ending my upgrades for tonight, but will resume upgrading tomorrow. My goal is to get this server to Mastodon 2.6.1 tomorrow.

How do y'all keep track of terminal commands that are super handy but you will still probably only use them once every ~3 months and completely forget the flags/syntax/regex in the meantime

Hi everyone! Just to let you know, I'm planning on upgrading digipres.club to the latest version of Mastodon in the near future. There may be brief windows of downtime, though I don't anticipate it being a major issue.
