I wrote a post on how the upcoming Yale #digipres symposium on May 11th revisits the notion of "permanence." #ndsa http://www.blog.still-water.net/2018/04/yale-keynote-asks-whether-art-can-be-permanent-in-the-digital-age/ https://digipres.club/media/UcA5guARSOF8aRKi4tE
@edsu I agree! Sometimes new media encourage us to look back at older media differently.
@jonippolito ... and yet despite this, all kinds of art are still an incredibly important and impactful part of our lives. The twin movements of curation and circulation are intrinsic to the experience of art.
@jonippolito I didn't realize Permanence Through Change was available on the web -- thanks for linking that!
I seem to remember you making the point in Re-Collectiont that permanence has *always been* a pipedream.
The physical art on the walls of our museums are only a sliver of what has been produced, and often lacks the context needed to understand it. Digital media have simply made this situation more visible.
