You’ve probably heard of “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” bc of her heroism on the Titanic, but there’s so much more to her story.

Margaret Brown (her real name) fought for workers’ rights, women’s rights, education & even ran for the Senate - before women could vote.

She established Titanic’s Survivor's Committee & helped erect the DC memorial.

And yet, Brown wasn't allowed to participate in the congressional Titanic hearings simply bc she was a woman. #history #women

My friend, I am here for you
and will listen to you
should you need to
tell me you are anxious, or
tell me you are frightened, or
tell me you are tired,
but my patience is finite
so please do not
tell me you weren’t warned.

If you say "never again", think:

What is my own moral responsibility as a bystander of evil?

What has my reaction been to acts and expressions based on antisemitism & other ideologies hatred?

What can I do, to make our world a better & safer place."

And then, start doing it.

Thinking about all the places NZers live, next to 24/7 factories, quarries, in rentals of asbestos and mold.

Yet somehow its the people owning homes next to neighbours with unkempt lawns and missed maintenance that gets the front page news. Heck there was even a story last month about the horror of a house being painted red in a fancy Tauranga street.

If there are days
when you look around
and think to yourself
that everyone has given up
just keep looking
and eventually you will see
another masked face go by
while this is not much
while it is not enough
let it remind you
you are not the only one
still fighting the plague.

So, this travelling around by bus on the North island is trickier than I thought. I'll get the hang of it eventually. 😬 Thames up next. #AotearoaByBus

New acquisition:

An anonymous pamphlet satirizing the new #Revolutionary order in #France (in-8, 32 pp.)

Rare, but available in microfilm & digital form

The materiality of such items is a window into the past. The deep impression of the letterpress #printing is rewarding in both tactile and visual senses. The uneven untrimmed page edges remind us how #paper was made by hand. And the simple form--stitched, no cover--embodies the explosion of cheap #print that the #Revolution brought forth.

Apparently I'm supposed to write up some sort of hashtag cloud of what I'm interested in. ... I may as well cut out the middle man and hashtag what I'll end up talking about, interest or no interest...
